Upstate New York Residence

This two-story structure, a short drive from Manhattan, is designed as the primary home for a young, creative couple looking to settle amidst a green, upstate oasis. The house is located in a 1-acre property adjoining a large nature preserve. The house clings to a steep slope, accentuating its closeness with the natural topography. Following from this interdependence, our renovation re-orients the house out toward the adjoining nature preserve, blurring the boundaries between interior and exterior. Light, natural materials and the soft finishes of custom fit outs reveal a careful attention to detail, while continuing to spotlight the views beyond. The circulation choreography follows the landscape: starting above, a plan with three bedrooms and an intimate family room opens below to an open plan central gathering space and kitchen.
