Structural Analysis Of Unreinforced Masonry

Studio Nyandak is working with Fenec (www.fenecforheritage.com) in conducting technical research on the structural analysis of unreinforced masonry structures to study their behavior when subjected to gravity and lateral load. We are currently working on assessing two typical New York City brownstones and townhouses built in the late-19th century. To obtain better understanding of these historical buildings, we rely on material testing, nondestructive testing (NDT), historical research, numerical modelling using finite element analysis and discrete element modeling, graphic statics, and kinematic analysis. The analysis will study the behavior of these unreinforced masonry structures under earthquake loading through nonlinear static (pushover) analysis.
